Powder skiing in August!
Summer is generally the least snowy time of year in the world – even in Finland. But at Lumiversumi, the season doesn’t determine when the skiing season begins or ends. There’s great skiing to be found all year round, including in August!
Next year, we’re heading somewhere new: the Chilean Andes. While it’s the middle of winter in the Southern Hemisphere, we’ll find vast mountain ranges, untouched slopes and a unique heliskiing experience.
For powder skiers, August is one of the best times to visit the mountains of South America. That’s why we’ve chosen 11–21 August 2027 for Lumiversumi’s first heliskiing trip to Chile.
We’ve reserved places for eight guests with Powder South, the largest and best-known heliskiing operator in South America, for a five-day heliskiing adventure at Puma Lodge. Puma Lodge – Powder South
The eight guests will be divided into two groups of four, with the two groups sharing one helicopter.
The groups will be guided by Stefan Palm and Pette Halme. Stefan is one of Sweden’s most experienced heliskiing guides. He has been skiing in the Andes for more than 20 years and is one of Powder South’s long-standing and trusted guides. Pette Halme is Finland’s first UIAGM mountain guide and has been guiding heliskiers for around 20 years in destinations including Switzerland, Italy, Kazakhstan and Sweden.

Program of the week
Thursday, 12 August 2027 – Arrival in Chile
We arrive in Chile and spend our first day exploring Santiago. We’ll also pick up our ski equipment for Friday’s warm-up day.
Friday, 13 August 2027 – Warm-up skiing in Valle Nevado
Our first day on skis takes place at Valle Nevado ski resort, around a 1.5-hour drive up into the Andes. We’ll be guided by a local mountain guide and Pette Halme.
Saturday, 14 August 2027 – Transfer to Puma Lodge
After breakfast, a Powder South minibus will pick us up for the approximately 3–4-hour journey to Puma Lodge. This beautiful lodge is located at an altitude of around 1,500 metres, approximately 150 km south of Santiago, surrounded by the spectacular mountains of the Andes.
Sunday, 15 August – Thursday, 19 August 2027 – Heliskiing in the Andes
Five unforgettable days of heliskiing amid the spectacular scenery of the Andes, skiing at elevations of approximately 2,000–4,000 metres.
Thursday, 19 August 2027 – Return to Santiago
After our final day of skiing, we’ll transfer back to Santiago and check into one of the city’s five-star hotels: Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton or W Santiago. We’ll celebrate our final evening together in Santiago.
Friday, 20 August 2027 – Flight back to home
After breakfast, we’ll head to the airport and begin our journey home. We’ll return home with unforgettable memories, new friends and plenty of stories to tell about powder skiing in the Andes.
Flights and ground transport
There are several convenient flight options from Europe to Santiago. Routing options are available with airlines such as Air France, KLM, Finnair + British Airways, and Finnair + Iberia.
All ground transportation in Chile included in the itinerary is covered by the trip price.
Passport and visa
EU citizens do not need a visa to travel to Chile as tourists. Please check the visa requirements that apply to your country of citizenship before travelling.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry into Chile.
Other
On average, during a five-day heliskiing trip, there is usually one day when the helicopter is unable to fly due to weather conditions. If bad weather affects, for example, two days, we can usually make up for the lost flying time by skiing more on the better days. This allows us to use all 11 flight hours included in the trip price.
If, on the other hand, the weather is favourable throughout the week and the helicopter is able to fly every day, the included 11 flight hours will usually be used up by the fourth, or at the latest the fifth, day of skiing. After that, it is possible to continue skiing for an additional fee.
An additional flight hour costs approximately €3,700, which works out at around €460 per person when divided between eight skiers. Any additional flying is entirely optional – nobody is obliged to take part or pay any extra.
